Charles Hayes, an aged and respected citizen of this village, died at his home at 8 o’clock Tuesday morning. Mr. Hayes was born in Troupsburg, Stuben Co., N.Y., Oct. 2nd 1840 and was the third son of Hiram and Lydia Skinner, who had eleven children. Diseased came to this section of the country in 1862 and resided for a short time in Henrietta, later moving to Rush, where he had since lived with the exception of two years, 1871-72, when he went to Adrian, Mich. Returning here he went into market gardening, and carried on an extensive pickle business, being the first about here to have an industry of the kind. He was married to Ella M. Greene, daughter of the late Shelby Greene, in 1867. Besides his wife, one daughter Mary Elvada, and four brothers and three sisters survive. Mrs. Betsey Schofield, of Lewiston, Idaho. Ira E. and Wm. L. Hayes, and J. B. Hayes of Canisteo. Almon J. of Franklinville and Edgar of Jasper, N.Y. The funeral service will be held at 3 o’clock, Friday, at his late home. Mr. Domhuffed, 1st reader of the 1st church of Christ Scientist, Rochester, will officiate. Rev. H Williamson assisting. Interment in Pine Hill cemetery.
